List of States by Area Code

List of States by Area Code. We have the data, but what should we do to productize it? From an user's prospective, what would be helpful to you? For example should we add a search engine, that you could integrate with your site? Any thoughts?

  • BTW: This site was the original concept for using of area codes. It would take a geographic location and map it to cell phone suppliers.

  • What I'd love to see is a further drill-down. The prefixes in the area I used to live in, PG County MD, corresponded to the area the caller was from - I don't know if it's in use today, what will cell phones, etc, but it would be great if I could look at a local phone number and know what part of Henderson or Las Vegas it was in.

For example, let's say I want to look up bank locations online. Sometimes the radius search of nearest banks in five miles is a little inaccurate, or not suited to my needs... I want to know of a bank near my new client, and I don't know their zip code offhand. But if I looked at the prefixes, and could look them up in my phone or on the web before I go, I may be able to guesstimate which bank is closest.

On the converse side, if I was developing a site that does those types of local searches, to help a user find a local branch, instead of asking for information they may not know, such as a zip code, I could tell them to put in the area code and the next three digits of the number. Based on that, I could tell them, you need a branch in this area, or this other neighboring area, and give them back a list of places to visit.

    My 2 cents...

  • Thanks for the feedback. I think we could provide this information to the user. I took a test drive of the Acura MDX that had a GPS. It was voice activated so you would say “banks” and it would display icons on the screen of nearby banks. Something similar could be done you could even provide a map of the general area.

  • Sounds fabulous. I'll be poking my head in from time to time to see how that project's doing...
